Two years removed from
a winless campaign, there is only one direction for the Blue Devils
basketball program, and that is on the way up. After finishing
the season 0-23 in 2007-08, Windsor won six games a season ago
(6-20). Three of those victories came in National Trail Conference
play.
"We look to build
on the progress we made last year and compete night in and night
out in the conference," third-year coach Bruce Austin said.
Three starters are back for the Blue Devils, including leading
scorer Kyle Floyd (6'1" Point Guard). Last year, Floyd averaged
12 points/game. Joining Floyd in the rotation will be returning
starters Torey Leasher (6'4" Power Forward), who averaged
6.0 points/game and 7.0 rebounds/game, along with Zach Weber (6'4"
Center). Weber put up 6.0 points/game and 6.0 rebounds/game a
year ago.
Newcomers to the varsity
looking to scratch for time on the floor will be, Ryne Floyd (6'3"
Shooting Guard), Sid Edwards (6'1" Small Forward), Braden
Stremming (5'9" Guard), and Andy Cole (5'10" Guard).
In the National Trail,
Windsor will look to build on last year's three-win campaign.
"(Effingham) St. Anthony and Stewardson-Strasburg will be
the clear leaders of the conference this year. Teutopolis will
reload with up and coming juniors and a solid senior class."
Austin has a 6-44 career
head coaching record.
Windsor has seen little
postseason success on the boy's hardwood in recent decades. The
last postseason championship was a District title in the 1965-66
season. The Blue Devils have won four Regionals in school history
(1939-40, 1940-41, 1942-43, 1959-60). Windsor won several District
titles from the 1920's on into the 1960's.
