Depth is not an asset
for the Carrollton Hawks in 2009-10. Two starters return from
a team that went (24-5) and won tournaments at Carrollton and
Winchester. The good news in Hawks country is one of those returning
starters is an IBCA all-state honorable mention player.
Josh Krumwiede (6'0"
Sr. Guard) averaged 12.5 points/game a year ago, and set a school
record by nailing (80) three-pointers. He enters his senior year
with 651 career points and a chance to break the CHS career three-pointers
record. Krumwiede also earned all-conference accolades in the
WIVC, along with being named second team all-area by the Alton
Telegraph and Jackonsville Journal-Courier.
Joining Krumwiede as
a returning starter is Kurtis Weber (5'9" Jr. Guard). A season
ago, Weber averaged 4.5 points/game and 3.0 rebounds/game. Coach
Krumwiede calls Weber the team's top defender.
Players looking to
play key roles for the Hawks will be, Sam Coonrod (6'2" Jr.
Forward), Joey Coonrod (5'9" So. Guard), Blaikley Webb (6'3"
Sr. Forward), and Ryan Palan (5'10" Jr. Guard). "Despite
losing a great senior class (43 ppg), we hope to finish above
.500 and compete for our conference championship. We must stay
healthy and out of foul trouble, as our depth is not a strength,"
coach Jeff Krumwiede said.
In the WIVC, the Hawks
look to contend with (Winchester) West Central once again. Last
year, West Central gave Carrollton three of their five losses.
"WIVC will be very competitive with West Central a favorite.
North Greene, Carrollton, and Brown County will challenge. Triopia
will be improved and will be capable."
Krumwiede surpassed
300 career coaching victories late last season. He enters his
18th year as a varsity head coach with a (322-160) record. A majority
of those victories have come at Carrollton, where he has spent
15 of those years coaching (287-142). He began his coaching career
at Franklin, staying for two seasons (35-18).
Carrollton has won
six regional championships and two sectional titles under Krumwiede.
The Hawks made supersectional appearances in (1994-95 & 2003-04).
The Hawks have made one trip to the state finals (1983-84) as
a quarterfinalist. That team was coached by Randy Jackson, who
finished his ten-year Carrollton run with a (175-96) record. Just
above Krumwiede on the all-time Carrollton coaching wins list
is Dick Hamann. From 1949-50 through 1972-73, he amassed 368 wins
and 197 losses.
