2013 PreviewThe past decade has not been kind for the Roxana Shells football program. Roxana managed just one win over a span of 53 games from 2004 to 2009. Hard work under the leadership of Pat Keith is beginning to pay off. The Shells finished 4-5 last season, but were just seconds away from victory in week two against Pana, who defeated Roxana, 16-15.
A bulk of the offense is back including Nick Hand and Chance Foss. Each of them started at quarterback in 2012. Foss, a freshman, was called to action after Hand suffered a knee injury. The duo will be competing for the starting job this off-season. Two of the top three rushers also return. Levi Wallace and Jordan Arnel combined for more than 580 yards rushing.
Eleven starters return, and the Shells bring back plenty of experience. Three all-conference selections, Sam Haas, Caleb Balwin, and Arnel return. The Shells could be a dark horse to watch for in the South Central Conference. Roxana finished fifth in the 10-team league a year ago. Both Greenville and Carlinville finished 8-1 in conference play last season. Greenville went on to a berth in the Class 3A semifinals.
Head CoachPat Keith is 11-25 in four seasons at Roxana, taking over a program that had gone winless in four of five years. He played two seasons at Millikin University.
Assistant CoachesDave Gan, Mark Briggs, Terry Chester, Steve Slater, Charlie Brown, and Mike Devening.
