2013 PreviewFour offensive starters and six defensive starters are back for the Stevenson Patriots. William Bourbon returns at quarterback after a record setting 2012 season. Bourbon set program records for passing yards (2,055), completions (155), and passing attempts (280). He set a single game passing record against Lyons Township, throwing for 337 yards in the 35-28 win.
Bourbon will have two of his targets from last season, Matt Morrissey and Cameron Green. Morrissey has picked up offers from Boston College, Central Michigan, Illinois, Toledo, and Western Michigan. Morrissey is the son of former Chicago Bears linebacker, Jim Morrissey. Zach Novoselsky will lead the offensive line. The 6-foot-5, 285 pound tackle has offers from Toledo, Western Michigan, and Wyoming, at the time of this writing. Novoselsky also has interest from a number of Big Ten programs, including Illinois, Northwestern, Michigan, and Wisconsin.
Defensively, Nick Dillon will be up front on the line. Dillon has interest from Illinois, Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, Northwestern, Notre Dame, and Ohio State. Three linebackers return: Itai Gerchikov, Jason Vravick, and Josh Junker.
The team has plenty of newcomers that could make an immediate impact. "We have a very talented group of upcoming juniors and sophomore," coach Bill McNamara said. Those players will need to get off to a fast start. "We know that we need to come out of the shoot playing well and need to show strides of improvement as the season progresses," McNamara said. The Patriots have qualified for the IHSA Playoffs in 24 consecutive seasons.
Head CoachBill McNamara enters his fourth year as the Stevenson Patriots head coach. He has a 28-7 record in three seasons.
Assistant CoachesTom Baumann, Chris Berry, Pat Block, Brian Burja, Josh Hjorth, Tom Kelly, and Dave Whitson.
